BE VS BTech...

BE is supposed to be more knowledge oriented where as B Tech is skill oriented. Now a days, nobody is caring about the by definition difference that was prevalent a generation ago. Its only University dependency.
Deciding which one is better is more dependent on the application/job one is capable of doing. Hands-on-experience is preferable to knowledge in many countries. An Engineer without skill is not an Engineer. To focus on this point, B Tech course was developed. This way B Tech is supposed to be closer to an Engineer than BE but now, not the degree but the talent matters. And its not important to have an Engineering Degree or background to be able to what the engineers actually are doing.
There are thousands of examples where people are doing very well along with engineers without having an engineering degree.

In India B.E. and B.Tech is treated as equivalents.People will prefer a better college or university rather then looking into as the degree offerred is B.E Or B.Tech.

Harayana Colleges Cutoffs!!!

Harayana 2006 Cutoffs

Harayana 2007 Cutoffs

Which College Will I Get Through AIEEE?

Please post your queries and doubts as comments so that me and other viewers can answer them. Any AIEEE rank or college query can be placed in this thread...

Why Cutoffs Are Expected Lower This Year?

AIEEE has removed the state quota for NITs and other institutions which are a part of central counselling as a result the cut offs rank throughout India will change drastically especially for NITs. Private institutes won't be affected to the same extent, however a noticeable change can be expected even in their cutoffs once AIEEE counselling, both first and second take place.

The Expected Cutoffs mentioned in this website are just approximate predictions of what I think is likely to happen.

JIIT Cutoffs!!!

JIIT or Jaypee Noida 2007 Cutoffs!!!

CS:14800
ECE:18900
IT:20600

These are approximate cutoffs. There are other subjects offered at JIIT whose cutoffs might have gone till even 28000-30000 AIR!

AIEEE 2008 Online Counselling!!!

AIEEE 2008 Online Counselling has already started at:

http://ccb.nic.in/CCB2008/offcampus08/rlogin.aspx

Although I doubt how accurate an idea it would give as each top ranker would probably apply for all courses. So don't be disheartened as what you actually get may be night and day better than the estimate you get here.

Indian Engineering Colleges Grading!!!

I find the rankings in magazines or the internet for that matter rather useless. Big names like Outlook and India Today are doing nothing but joking when making these rankings.

So I decided to grade Indian Engineering Colleges instead. Here is how I have rated:

A GRADE (TOP 10)

Awesome! The cream colleges of India and the best amongst the best. A better bet than any other colleges in India and are reknowned to have global standards.

IITs
NSIT
BITS Pilani
IT BHU
IIIT Hyderabad

B GRADE (TOP 25)

Very good colleges with good reputations and often heard of by laymen too. Those who miss A grade stuff or don't get good branches there sometimes land up over here.

DCE
Thapar
PEC
NITs Warangal Tricky Surathkal Allahabad
ISM
PSG College
Jadavpur University
BIT Meesra
IIIT Allahabad
BITS Pilani Goa Campus
Anna University Guindy
DAIICT

C GRADE (TOP 50)

Decent colleges with decent reputations and often growing(as in the case of Jaypee). Usually better to go to these colleges compared to BSc/BA even from the best universities in India. All of these colleges aren't heard of by everybody.

Manipal
Jaypee Noida
NITs Kozhikhode Kurukshetra
USIT
VIT
BVP
MAIT
LNMIT
RVCE
SSN

D GRADE (TOP 100)

Just about acceptable colleges which are the bare minimum that you should actually consider while choosing a BTech over a BSc. These colleges are usually not heard of by laymen.

NITs Durgapur Hamirpur Jalandhar
SRM
SASTRA
Nirma
Amrita
ITM

E GRADE (TOP 200)

The bare bare minimum colleges that you might consider for a BTech and often a good BSc could be a better choice.

Kalinga
GTBIT
Babu Banarsidas Lucknow
Galgotias
NITs Agartala Srinagar

BITS Expected Cut Off!!!

BITS is releasing ranks of candidates on 1 July. The statistical data is already out at:

http://bitsadmission.com/admn/bitsat/statistics.htm

Some statistical information on BITSAT-2008

BITSAT-2008

BITSAT score Analysis:

No of Candidates with score >= 400: 64
No of Candidates with score >= 350: 667
No of Candidates with score >= 300: 3613
No of Candidates with score >= 250: 11624
No of Candidates with Score >= 200: 25634

Last Years Cut Off:
260

This Years Expected Cut Off: 220-240+-10

Reason For Decrease in Cut Off:

Increase in BITS seats to 1.5 times due to opening of Hyderabad campus.

People are scoring a little lower than last year.

More seats in IIT and some other examinations.

NITs Expected Cut Off!!!

As you know this year AIEEE has changed its counselling procedure and abolished state ranks for selection which will now be held on AIR basis for NITs amongst other colleges just like IIITs previously, therefore the cut offs will take a huge turn and won't be like before.

I feel that previous years Chandigarh cutoffs or CG cutoffs should be similar/closest to mean AIR cut offs. You can have a look at them here:
http://ccb.nic.in/CCB2008/OrCr/Engineering/Eng/orcr.htm

I feel the cut offs for IIITs won't change much if at all, however NITs and even Thapar and PEC will have a notable impact on the cutoffs.

EXPECTED CUT OFFS:

Upto 2500
Very High NIT - High Course

Upto 5000
Very High NIT - Medium Course
High NIT - High Course

Upto 12000
Very High NIT - Very Low Course

COURSE

All these are the expected cut offs after the final round of counselling!
*Edited seeing first day of counseling to keep it partly in tune with first round of counseling as well.*

Indian Engineering Colleges!

Feel free to discuss about all sorts of Indian Engineering Colleges over here: which are the best ones and which are not that great! From IITs to NITs to regional colleges, let us discuss each and everything in detail...
